THE ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (EMC) LAB

Introduction

The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Lab is part of the PSDC’s Shared Services initiative, whereby industry members can have access to high-end testing facilities to support the design and development (D&D) activities for the electrical and electronics (E&E) sector. It is currently home to the largest anechoic chamber in Malaysia, in the form of a 10m Semi-Anechoic Chamber. The EMC Lab also houses a 3m Compact Full Anechoic Chamber, a Conducted Emissions/Conducted Immunity (CE/CI) Room, and an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Shielded Room.

Most organisations are set back by the high capital outlay of such investments, which typically have low utilization rates and generate minimal returns. Therefore, the set-up of facilities such as the EMC Lab within a central facility such as the PSDC increases industry access to such instruments which are critical components of success, and thus increase product sophistication.

The PSDC EMC Lab began its operations for engineering evaluations in November 2010, with full accreditation for the lab expected by 2012.
